Freeze the Moment - Author Advent Window 15

Would you like to freeze the moment?

It's the third Sunday of Advent already - how can that be? Time is rushing past as we prepare for Christmas or even just get on with our general busy day-to-day lives. I've been derailed in my routines by feeling unwell and that has left me struggling a bit, knowing that there is still a lot left on my 'to do' list and that I'm not at my usual level of competence to be ticking off my list. I shouldn't let it bother me but it does. Even though none of it really matters in the grand scheme of things, I like to feel that I am on top of stuff.

This weekend, I have managed to get some wrapping done whilst we have watched a couple of Christmas films - classics that are frozen in their own little time capsules. Although much has moved on from the time and setting of these films, that is probably part of their classic charm - they offer a little nostalgia frozen in time. By re-watching them each year, we take ourselves back to those times too and indulge in a bit of nostalgia as we recall what we were doing or how we felt when we first saw those films.

With the clock ticking down the number of shopping days left, it would be useful to be able to freeze time for a bit but I guess that Santa has the monopoly on that! That is how he does it all in one night, isn't it? As well as being a great aid for cutting down your workload, manipulating time could maybe have other advantages. Hermione's time turner in the Potter stories enabled her to attend more lessons to support her studies, a DeLorean allowed Marty McFly to improve his life chances, I'm only asking for a pause button reserved for occasional use.

The poem that our advent window features today, considers the value of a pause button. It asks whether being able to freeze frame a moment would allow us to fully appreciate it or to be able to hold on to that moment more effectively. The poem is called 'Freeze Frame' and is taken from the pages of my latest poetry collection - Just Take Five. I wonder if you had the opportunity, would you freeze the moment?
